The Overhead Crane + Slinger/Signaller (VVL) 2-in-1 course at Bonapi Training Center combines overhead crane operation with the safe attachment, lifting, and movement of loads.
This course is designed for anyone who wants to develop skills in both areas. You'll learn how to operate an overhead crane, prepare loads for lifting, and select and use the right lifting equipment.
By combining both courses, you'll gain a better understanding of the entire lifting process, from checking and securing a load to lifting, moving, and placing it safely.
The course includes both theory and hands-on practical training. You'll learn how to identify hazards, follow safety procedures, and carry out the tasks of an overhead crane operator and a slinger/signaller safely.
The course ends with exams that assess your knowledge and practical skills. After passing, you'll receive two separate certificates, each valid for 5 years.
Overhead Crane Operation
- Types, components, and basic operating principles of overhead cranes.
- Operator responsibilities and safety regulations.
- Pre-use inspections and safety checks.
- Lifting capacity, load limits, and safe lifting procedures.
- Crane controls and safe manoeuvring techniques.
- Identifying and preventing hazards during lifting operations.
Slinger/Signaller – Safe Load Handling (VVL)
- Roles and responsibilities of a slinger/signaller.
- Types of lifting slings, chains, hooks, and other lifting equipment.
- Inspecting lifting equipment for damage and wear.
- Selecting the right lifting equipment based on load weight, shape, and size.
- Understanding the centre of gravity and load stability.
- Correctly attaching, securing, and releasing loads.
- Communication between the slinger/signaller and crane operator, including standard hand signals.
Practical Training and Exams
- Inspecting and preparing overhead cranes and lifting equipment for use.
- Selecting and checking suitable lifting accessories.
- Attaching and securing different types of loads.
- Lifting, moving, and placing loads safely.
- Practising controlled crane movements and maintaining a safe working area.
- Theory and practical exams to assess your knowledge and skills.
The duration of the 2-in-1 course depends on the training programme and the participants' level of experience. The course includes theory, hands-on practice with overhead cranes and lifting equipment, and exams to assess the skills and knowledge gained.
To join the Overhead Crane + Slinger/Signaller (VVL) 2-in-1 course, you must meet the following requirements:
- Age: At least 18 years old.
- Identification: A valid ID card or passport.
- Health: Physically and mentally fit to operate overhead cranes and carry out lifting and load-handling tasks safely.
- Language skills: Able to understand the instructor's guidance, safety instructions, and training materials.
- Workwear: Suitable work clothes and safety shoes for practical training.
No previous experience with overhead cranes or slinging loads is required. The course is also suitable for beginners.
