The VCA Basic Exam (B-VCA) is intended for individuals who want to confirm their knowledge of basic health and safety regulations applicable in the Netherlands. The certificate is required by many employers, especially in construction, technical, and industrial sectors.
Participation in a preparatory course is not mandatory. This option is suitable for candidates who already have sufficient knowledge and want to obtain the VCA Basic certificate directly, valid for 10 years.
The exam covers topics related to:
- Basic workplace health and safety principles
- Hazard recognition in the workplace
- Safe working practices
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Responding to emergencies and accidents
The Basic VCA exam (in English and other languages) lasts 60 or 75 minutes.
The exam starts at 15:00.
Participants must arrive at least 30 minutes before the scheduled start time.
All participants taking the VCA exam in the Netherlands must be at least 18 years old and present a valid ID card or passport.
Please note: A driving licence is not accepted as a valid identification document.
Basic VCA exams are available in English and the following languages:

The VCA Basic exam consists of 40 multiple-choice questions.
To pass the exam, a minimum score of 65% correct answers is required.
Initial requirements:
You must be at least 18 years old and have a valid ID card or passport.

Yes. After successfully passing the exam, every candidate is registered in the official CDR system (Central Diploma Register):

The registration becomes visible in the CDR register on the first working day after the exam.
Yes, additional study materials are available if you book the hybrid course (VCA Basic or VCA VOL – online + classroom).
With this option, you receive access to the online training platform, allowing you to prepare for the exam at your own pace or revise the material before attending the classroom session.
Another way to reinforce your knowledge is by completing the free VCA practice test available online.
The VCA training can be completed online. However, the official VCA exam must be taken in person at our training center in Spijkenisse.
It is not possible to take the VCA exam fully online.
Payment for the VCA training can be made by bank transfer based on the issued invoice. It is also possible to pay on-site, either in cash or by debit/credit card.
You can also register directly through our website and pay for the course online.
Please note that full payment must be completed before the training starts.
VCA certificates are sent to candidates on the first working day after the exam. On the same day, successful candidates become visible in the official CDR system.
On the day of the exam, candidates receive confirmation of participation in the VCA exam, including their result and certificate number.
Both the confirmation and the certificate are issued in digital format only.
Our training center is proud of a high pass rate among our candidates.
In the case of the VCA VOL exam, the result largely depends on the candidate’s language proficiency, as strong understanding of the exam language plays an important role in achieving a positive result.
The VCA Basic exam consists of 40 questions.
The VCA VOL exam consists of 70 questions.
To pass the exam, candidates must achieve at least 65% correct answers.
