What are modular trolleys?

These are multi-purpose machines designed for use in narrow warehouse aisles or halls where tightly packed shelves and racking make it impossible for standard warehouse trucks to operate. This type of solution is used in storage areas where the space available is often just a few centimetres wider than the width of the system truck itself.

Why modular trolleys?

The ongoing development of the warehousing and logistics sector in the Netherlands presents new challenges for companies seeking to maximise their storage capacity whilst maintaining the same floor space within their infrastructure. Modern logistics requires the constant upgrading of the technology used in warehouses. In enclosed spaces, such as factories, warehouses or various types of production facilities, system trolleys are the ideal solution. The Dutch labour market prioritises innovation, and system trolleys are the answer to the ever-changing trends in this sector.

Are modular trolleys the right solution for every business?

When opting for this solution, we must bear in mind that these machines are designed for high-quality flooring and require sufficient space for turning and manoeuvring (4.5–5 m), known as a ‘transfer corridor’. These measures are intended to facilitate induction or rail-and-roller guidance.

What types of trolleys are there? What tasks are they designed for?

Order Picker Truck (VNA).

“Order Picker Truck” order-picking trucks, also known as VNA (Very Narrow Aisle) trucks, are designed for picking pallets from both sides. This multi-purpose vehicle is ideal for efficient order picking, whilst ensuring safe and stable operation. With a lifting capacity of 1,200 to 1,500 kg and the ability to store and retrieve loads from a height of 17.5 m, the vehicle maintains a relatively high travel speed of up to 12 km/h.

Combitruck.

Three-way system trucks, also known as ‘Combitrucks’. System trucks can be divided into two-way and three-way models. The ability to rotate the forks around their own axis is a major advantage; this feature allows the truck to be operated from either side of the aisle, from the front, and even from the floor on which the ‘Combitruck’ is positioned. Two-way trucks, on the other hand, although their functionality is more limited, are capable of operating in much narrower aisles between 1500 and 1800 mm. The reach of these trucks allows for loading to a height of over 14 metres.

Man-Up, Man-Down.

We also distinguish between two types of forklifts: Man-Up and Man-Down. The former is characterised by the fact that the forks rise together with the operator’s cab to a specific height. This is the ideal solution for both order picking and the storage and retrieval of pallets. Operating a Man-Down forklift is similar, but its functionality is limited to floor level.
